Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has reached out to former player Delonte West to help get his life back on track.
What We Know:
- Cuban personally picked up West at a gas station on Monday and reportedly took him to a hospital, according to TMZ and ESPN. West is currently homeless and several shocking photos of him panhandling have surfaced.
- West’s family and friends have long tried to get him help and have him go to a drug rehabilitation facility but to no avail. Luckily, Cuban has offered to pay for West’s treatment.
- Earlier this year, videos of West being assaulted in the street went viral. Several players and fans have voiced support for him, including former teammate Jameer Nelson who asked people to be mindful when sharing pictures or videos of West online.
- West played NBA basketball for eight seasons from 2004 to 2012. He most notably played for the Boston Celtics and the Cleveland Cavaliers. He most recently played for the Dallas Mavericks in 2012 and was waived after several suspensions.
- West revealed his bipolar disorder diagnosis and mental struggles during his playing career. He has been involved in several legal incidents during his career and since his departure from the league. He also pled guilty to two weapons charges in 2010.
West, 37, averaged 9.6 points and 3.6 assists a game for his career.
