On Thursday night, Tory Lanez finally decided to break his silence from the events that transpired back on July 12th when he shot Megan Thee Stallion in the evening after an escalated argument.
What We Know:
- Tory abruptly took to social media Thursday afternoon and tweeted what seemed to finally be his side of the whole Megan shooting incident. In the post, he stated that he had “time today,” implying what many fans thought would be some sort of hint at the rapper coming out with an apology. What ended up happening instead was him dropping a full-blown album.

- The title of the new album is Daystar and features 17 tracks. Listeners will be able to hear Tory mention the incident, which he was arrested for and charged with carrying a concealed weapon, several times. Megan was shot twice on her feet that night. After much speculation about who pulled the trigger, Megan took to Instagram and said it was Tory who shot her. “Yes, this n**ga Tory shot me. You shot me, and you got your publicist and your people to these blogs lying and shit, stop lying!”
- The LAPD is reportedly still investigating what went down that night and Tory has yet to be officially charged with the shooting itself. On the album, Tory’s message is clear in saying he’s innocent. On the song “Money Over Fallouts”, one verse states, “Megan people trying to frame me for a shooting But them boys ain’t clean enough.”
- Further into the track, Tory raps, “Girl, you had the nerve to write that statement on that affidavit Knowing I ain’t do it but I’m coming at my truest,” suggesting he’s hurt by Kehlani’s response. “And I thought you was solid too, but look at how you doing me Look at how you doing me, people trying to ruin me,” he continued.
- Moreover, on “Sorry But I Had To…”, Tory rapped “And though I’m innocent, they got this picture painted heavily.” He later makes a bold statement, “You n**gas playin’ Instagram, I’m playin’ real life Think I’m finna talk about a open case just for some likes?”

- The release of Daystar has of course been met with countless backlash from fans and those following the situation since mid-summer. A bulk of the online backlash is targeting the fact that the Canadian rapper seems to be using Megan’s shooting as a way to promote his new music. Many have essentially called for a “streaming boycott” to avoid people from listening to the new album.
Others brought up the point that dropping this project couldn’t have come at a more unstable time. As of late, much of the country is outraged by the recent proceedings by a grand jury’s decision not to charge police officers in the murder of Breonna Taylor.
