Arguably one of the most treasured casts in TV history is getting back together, for one night only on the relatively young video streaming service HBO Max. The cast of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air will reunite on HBO Max to celebrate the show’s 30th anniversary.

What We Know:

  • The special reunion will reportedly be recorded on September 10th, but the special will not air until a little over 2 months later around Thanksgiving time, the outlet states. It will celebrate the Fresh Prince’s 30th anniversary when it first began airing on September 10th, 1990.
  • Of course, the series star Will Smith will be there, joined by the rest of the colorful cast of series regulars such as Tatyana Ali, Karyn Parsons, Joseph Marcell, Daphne Maxwell Reid, and Alfonso Ribeiro will all be part of the special. There will even be an appearance from DJ Jazzy Jeff.
  • Known music video director, Marcus Raboy, has been chosen to help direct the special. Showrunner and executive producer Rikki Hughes, alongside Miguel Melendez, Lukas Kaiser, and Brad Haugen for Westbrook Media will also executive producing.

  • HBO Max is another contender in the streaming world. The video-on-demand streaming service from AT&T’s WarnerMedia is the only place you can catch the entire run of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The series was available immediately after the launch of the service in May. The show originally ran on NBC from 1990 to 1996 for six seasons and just shy of 150 episodes.
  • This special actually marks the second project the former cast has done centering the Fresh Prince this year. They all reunited earlier back in April for Smith’s Snapchat series “Will From Home”. Earlier this month, there were talks that Smith and Westbrook are developing a drama reboot of the series based on Morgan Cooper’s viral video “Bel-Air”.
  • For those that tuned into the Will Smith’s Snapchat show finale earlier this year, where the cast reunited to pay tribute to the life of James Avery “Uncle Phil,” this special could end up being another heart touching watch.
  • The Fresh Prince isn’t the only reunion HBO Max has in store for its streamers. Last week, an announcement that the cast of The West Wing was reuniting to make a reimagined and theatrical release of the Hartsfield’s Landing episode which aired during the series’ third season. It will be shot at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles sometime in October

Another reunion special that was supposed to air at launch was an unscripted Friends reunion, but it has been delayed several times due to the coronavirus pandemic’s grip on the entertainment industry.
