The longtime Trump advisor and former campaign manager announced Sunday that she is leaving the White House for family reasons, NBC News reports.
What We Know:
- Kellyanne Conway served as President Donald Trump’s campaign manager in 2016 and remained in the White House as one of his most trusted and outspoken advisers for his first term. “Our four children are teens and ‘tweens starting a new academic year, in middle school and high school, remotely from home for at least a few months,” Conway said on her decision to leave. “As millions of parents nationwide know, kids ‘doing school from home’ requires a level of attention and vigilance that is as unusual as these times.”
- Her husband, lawyer George Conway, is a fervent critic of the president and founder of the anti-Trump group called the Lincoln Project. He too announced that he will be stepping down from his position to give his family more attention.
So I’m withdrawing from @ProjectLincoln to devote more time to family matters. And I’ll be taking a Twitter hiatus.
Needless to say, I continue to support the Lincoln Project and its mission. Passionately.

- Kellyanne Conway’s departure comes at a critical time during Trump’s reelection campaign with the Republican National Convention kicking off Monday and Trump trailing in key battleground states. One administration official said that Conway told the president about her decision Sunday and added that Trump is in full support. “This is completely my choice and my voice,” Conway stated.
- Claudia Conway, the couple’s daughter, has expressed serious disdain for her parents and their positions on Twitter, even adding that she is seeking emancipation.
my mother’s job ruined my life to begin with. heartbreaking that she continues to go down that path after years of watching her children suffer. selfish. it’s all about money and fame, ladies and gentlemen.

- Kellyanne Conway is still scheduled to speak at the RNC this week despite her plans to resign from her post. Claudia shamed that decision in another Tweet, saying she was “devastated”.
i’m devasted that my mother is actually speaking at the RNC. like DEVASTATED beyond compare

President Trump plans to make an appearance every night of this year’s RNC, an unprecedented move by a major party’s nominee. Other notable speakers include the president’s four oldest children, First Lady Melania Trump, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, and former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley.
