Sarah Cooper, Viral Trump Impersonator, Coming to Netflix

Sarah Cooper, who has risen to fame this year for her viral TikTok videos where she lip-syncs to President Donald Trump press comments, is coming to Netflix with her very own comedy special.

What We Know:

  • Although Cooper has been pursuing comedy since 2014 and has published several books, she blew up on social media earlier this year when she began posting political satire videos of her impersonating Trump, lip-syncing to his speeches. Cooper’s videos have racked up millions of views across her social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, and YouTube. Her first viral video, “How to Medical,” posted on April 23, has received over 22 million views on Twitter.

  • The new Netflix special, titled Sarah Cooper: Everything’s Fine, will feature a “variety special full of vignettes dealing with issues of politics, race, gender, class and other light subjects”. In the show, Cooper will be joined by special guests who will partake in sketches and short interviews, among other “shenanigans”. It will be directed by Natasha Lyonne, known for her work in Netflix’s Russian Doll and Orange Is the New Black. Maya Rudolph will serve as one of the executive producers.
  • Since her “How to Medical” video first garnered mainstream attention, she has appeared on daytime and late-night talk shows as well as been featured in major publications across the United States. On Tuesday, she filled in as host on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
  • Cooper has a series of other “How to Trump” videos, including “How to Bible”, which have also gone viral. She has also received praise from major stars like Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Stiller, Cher, Chrissy Tiegen, and Jerry Seinfeld.
  • Before her new mega-viral fame, Cooper was a writer and correspondent on the CBS All Access pilot Old News, produced by Stephen Colbert. She also wrote the best-selling books 100 Tricks to Appear Smart in Meetings and How to Be Successful Without Hurting Men’s Feelings.

The one-off special, Everything’s Fine, is set to premiere in Fall 2020.
