Following the premiere of the former first lady’s podcast, Michelle Obama has curated her first Spotify playlist featuring various female artists of color.
What We Know:
- The Michelle Obama Podcast premiered exclusively on Spotify back in July. She talks “candid, human, and personal conversations to show us what is possible when we dare to be vulnerable”. The eponymous podcast will feature guests like Craig Robinson, Conan O’Brien, and just recently hosted her husband, Barack Obama.
- Following the premiere of the Spotify podcast, Michelle released the first volume of The Michelle Obama Playlist. The 2-hour long playlist featured various artists of color including well-known names like Kendrick Lamar, Beyonce, and Jhene Aiko.
“Excited to share with you a new Spotify playlist inspired by the first season of my new podcast. It’s filled with incredible new artists and a whole lot of #BlackGirlMagic. I hope you’ll give it a listen and follow some of these terrific musicians.”

- The playlist also features less widely known artists; some of these up and coming hidden gems include Steve Lacy, Ravyn Lenae, and Mereba. The 41 songs are a mix of R&B, Rap, Alternative, Pop, and many other genres.
Both, Michelle Obama’s podcast and playlist, will inspire listeners to exist outside of their comfort zone whether that be through conversation or music.
