Emmy nominated Issa Rae and Academy Award winning Jordan Peele are coming together to create a psychological science fiction/ horror film called Sinkhole. The film is based on a short story written by Leyna Krow.
What We Know:
- A sinkhole is described as a hole in the ground caused by some form of collapse on the surface layer.
- Leyna Krow’s short story follows a family who purchased a home with a sinkhole in the backyard. They find out that the sinkhole fixed broken inanimate objects once thrown in so the wife grows curious on how it may ‘fix’ her.
- Insecure‘s Issa Rae and Get Out‘s Jordan Peele will produce this film under Universal and Peele’s MonkeyPaw. Universal beat out 10 other studios in order to get the screen rights with a seven-figure deal.
- The producers are Jordan Peele, Issa Rae, Win Rosenfeld, Montrel McKay, and Sara Rastogi. Writer Leyna Krow and Alex Davis-Lawrence will be co-executive producers. Jordan Peele and Monkeypaw will be represented by CAA and Morris Yorn. Issa Rae will be represented by UTA, 3 Arts Entertainment, and John Meigs.
While there is no confirmed release date or casting, the hype around the film has only just begun. Both Issa Rae and Jordan Peele have done tremendous work to portray black narratives that are set apart from the mainstream.
