With many of us stuck in quarantine, we had the time to catch up on quite a few television series. With some of those becoming our favorites, in September we may get the opportunity to see them win an Emmy Award.
What We Know:
- The Emmy nominations were announced during a virtual event, hosted by Leslie Jones, with the help of Josh Gad, Laverne Cox, and Tatiana Maslany. The 72nd Emmy Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, Sept. 20th on ABC. It has not been announced if it will be prerecorded and broadcast virtually or a live ceremony, but Jimmy Kimmel will be hosting, his third time with the honor.
- Netflix dominated the Emmy award nominations, breaking the record for the most nominations ever, with 160 nominations. HBO came in second, with 107 nominations. The best drama race that was controlled by “Game of Thrones” has new contenders such as, HBO’s “succession”, Netflix’s “Ozark”, “The Crown” and a surprise for many viewers, Disney + “The Mandalorian.”
- In the comedy category, Amazon’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”, Netflix’s “Dead to Me,” NBC’s “The Good Place,” and Pop TV’s “Schitt’s Creek” received 15 nominations for its final season.
