Senator Tom Cotton spoke publicly on how Twitter threatened to permanently lock his account on Fox news.

- Senator Tom Cotton recently was under fire for his op-ed at the New York Times regarding using physical force on peaceful protesters.
- The Senator stated that Twitter threatened to permanently lock his account if he did not erase his opinion-based tweets and was only given 30 minutes to comply and delete the tweets.
- The Arkansas Senator has been very outspoken on how conservative sites or individuals are the only ones receiving this restriction. His tweets revolved around the lack of proper organization with mayors not controlling “rioters” and the lack of respect on historical statues.
“Twitter began as an open platform committed to the free exchange of ideas; over time, it increasingly has taken upon itself the role of politically correct censor of thought-crime by elected officials and ordinary citizens alike.”
- He later on claimed that Twitter has lied about its own policy to other legislators such as Rep. Matt Gaetz. Among the claims, he also mentioned how they flag “threats of violence” but they would not cooperate with law enforcement investigating death threats against himself and other legislators.
- The claims came after The New York Times came under fire for posting Cotton’s opinion-based article and he received backlash by The New York Times employees on how it promoted violence against people of color.

- The Arkansas Senator later posted on how The New York Times twisted his words on using military force and they should only be called if police are “overwhelmed”.
- The Senator has also been very outspoken about the disbanding of police departments and saying that news columns who publish it are putting lives in danger.
Even now, more than ever, some Senators are publicly being open about their support for the Black Lives Matter movement regarding the recent tragic death of George Floyd. However, Senators such as Tom Cotton have been outspoken that peaceful protesters are not being reasonable.
