DJ D-Nice Hosts Lit Virtual Dance Party Amid Quarantine

Legendary rapper, producer, and DJ Derrick “D-Nice” Jones has joined the army of people finding creative ways to entertain themselves or keep others entertained through the coronavirus pandemic by hosting a one-man show on Instagram Live.

What We Know:

  • D-Nice set up his turntables in his kitchen and invited his 950,000 followers to tune in and dance along.
  • The makeshift day gig came just in time to give people a release from the COVID-19 news sweeping the nation, costing lives, jobs and severely straining the world’s economy.
  • Many of his A-List friends – including Rihanna, Common and John Legend – made guest appearances thanks to Instagram Live’s split feature option, which lets two people appear in a split screen.

  • More than 100,000 people tuned in for his Saturday celebration, which lasted for 10 hours and had appearances from former First Lady Michelle Obama, presidential hopefuls Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders, and musician Diddy – who also sent the DJ a bottle of Cîroc vodka, in which Diddy owns a stake, during the set.
  • “Home School is a thing!” D-Nice said in a Saturday post. “This has been a great way to keep our spirits high.”
  • Chasten Buttigieg, who is married to former presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg, tweeted Sunday morning, “Thanks for the dance party last night @djdnice.”

  • Instagram tweeted about the “global dance party” and Mark Zuckerberg showed up and “bought out” the virtual bar. As the night ended, D-Nice played a new song from Childish Gambino titled “19.10” from Gambino’s new album and ended the night with Usher, Ludacris and Lil Jon’s “Lovers & Friends”.
