A day after revealing he tested positive for COVID-19, Idris Elba took to Twitter to slam the theory that Black people cannot contract the coronavirus.
What We Know:
- Elba posted a 2-part video update about his health status. The 47-year-old British actor also asked fans to stop spreading the myth that Black people are immune to the potentially deadly COVID-19.

- Elba said he immediately quarantined himself in his house on location and advocated for more testing being available since he believes that earlier diagnosis is vital to stopping the pandemic.
- “Just for clarification, Sabrina wanted to be by my side,” he said. “As much as we talked about her not coming to where I am, she did. She wanted to. I love her even more for it and I would do the same thing for her.” His wife is still awaiting her test results at this time.
- The British actor also warned that “the quickest way to get more Black people killed” is by spreading disinformation about the virus. For example, Waka Flocka recently claimed minorities can’t get COVID-19 and that it’s a hoax.
- Aside from Elba, other celebrities and stars such as Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson, revealed that they tested positive in Australia last week, along with several NBA players including Donovan Mitchell, Rudy Gobert, and Kevin Durant.
Despite the news of testing positive, Elba did reveal he’s still asymptomatic, meaning he hasn’t felt any symptoms caused by COVID-19 as of late. The main reason he got tested in the first place was because he had come into contact with someone who was infected.
