The Color Purple is undeniably Black history in Hollywood and will be making an appearance on the big screen for its 35- year anniversary.

- The movie, directed by Steven Spielberg, starred celebrities like Danny Glover and Whoopi Goldberg, and was actually the debut film for Oprah Winfrey.
- The film was adapted from the Pulitzer Prize Novel written by Alice Walker in 1982.
- The Color Pruple was very successful upon the original debut 35 years ago, receiving 11 Oscar nominations.
- The fictional story is embedded in the minds and hearts of so many Black people who have been influenced by the production.
- Much of the film represents the discrimination Black women faced in the south and is a coming of age story about strength, self awareness, and growth.
