As Regina King makes her directional debut with One Night In Miami, Aldis Hodge joins the cast.
What We Know:
- Based on a play by Kemp Powers, One Night In Miami, follows the journey of a young Cassius Clay as he emerges from the Miami Beach Convention Center as the World Heavyweight Boxing Champion. “One Night in Miami is a love letter to Black manhood that powerfully explores themes of race, identity and friendship,” said King in a statement to Deadline.
- The cast includes a talented list of actors who will portray some of the most prominent black figures in black history and culture. Grammy and Tony Award winner Leslie Odom, Jr. will be playing singer Sam Cooke, Eli Goree as Cassius Clay right before he became Muhammad Ali, and Kingsley Ben-Adir as civil rights activist Malcolm X.
- Hodge will be an asset to this film as he plays sports analyst, actor, and football star Jim Brown. We’ve seen him in some of the greatest supporting roles in movies like Straight Outta Compton, What Men Want, Hidden Figures and the cancelled but great show Underground on WGN.
- In the film, the men are all connected as friends spending the night at the Hampton House Motel in Miami’s Overtown neighborhood. “Each of them has contributed so much to culture and history. We’re so excited to have Kingsley, Eli, Aldis and Leslie in the lead roles showing a different side of these iconic men,” advised King.
A release date for the film has yet to be given but the film will be a must see for sure.
