According to Macomb County prosecutor Eric Smith, Kevin Dixon was charged with first-degree murder, carrying a concealed weapon, and felony firearm in connection to his girlfriend India Mackey’s death. Dixon is currently being held without bail.
What We Know:
- In footage obtained by ABC, Dixon is seen sitting in a car, pulling out a gun and loading it. In the video, he is heard talking to the victim saying, “You think I’m playing, huh?”
- It was alleged that Dixon shot Mackey after the video was recorded before driving off with Mackey still inside the vehicle. According to Smith’s office, Mackey was pronounced dead on the scene at 5:51 p.m. on November 17.
- Dixon’s mother, Nikita Dixon was arrested and is being held on a $100,000 bond for being an accessory and tampering with evidence after Dixon called her asking her to get rid of the murder weapon.
- Smith said that in the past two months there has been a rise in domestic violence deaths and Mackey’s death is the sixth murder so far. He also warned those in a similar situation to leave immediately. “Please, if you are facing an imminent violent situation, leave the situation immediately and call the police. Do not stay and record the incident. It could be the difference between life and death.”
- A vigil was held for Mackey on November 24 at Saginaw High School where she previously graduated. Mackey’s older sister, Isis opened up about the love her sister received. “I know she was very loved, but to see everybody come together like this, it just means a lot.”
Mackey’s father, Joseph Polk expressed his feelings towards the loss of his daughter. “Let your fathers protect you. Let your uncles, your brothers, let the community protect you. Go to somebody. Tell somebody. Somebody will help you because they don’t want to see this ending.”
