A shooting occurred near New Orleans’ French Quarter leaving 10 people injured.
What We Know:
- On Sunday, December 1, 2019, around 3:25 a.m on a busy commercial block of Canal Street, a shooting broke out injuring 10 people. The victims included five males and five females. One victim had to undergo surgery while the other nine victims are in stable condition.
- Police believe the shooting stemmed from a “feud” between multiple individuals who are not from the New Orleans metropolitan area. Police quickly responded to the scene as patrols were heightened.
- There was an influx of people due to the Bayou Classic, the annual Thanksgiving weekend rivalry football game between Grambling State and Southern University. The game was held at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
- New Orleans Police Chief Shaun Ferguson said in a statement, “We will be holding these individuals accountable, and they will not be free to walk these streets. Those involved chose to disregard the law enforcement presence and decided to fire upon a crowd of innocent people.”
One weapon was recovered on the scene and CrimeStoppers is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
