After the tragic loss of 21-year-old Alexis Crawford, a Clark Atlanta University student is calling for action.
What We Know:
- Angelo Hopson, a senior at CAU was led to create a “CAU Safe House” proposal that is aimed at keeping university women safe. The proposal is in response to the murder of CAU’s own, Alexis Crawford. “I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t get it out of my head,” Hopson said. “I was compelled to do something.”
- Hopson told CBS46 he was overcome with emotion, along with the rest of campus, after finding out Crawford had been killed. He says “you have to have a period of mourning, but you also have to have a period of action.”
- Hopson hopes to give the parents a better sense of security. His proposal includes four components: engagement, communication, information, and housing. It is designed to give women somewhere to go for guidance in seeking help, finding temporary housing, and filing reports.
Hopson expects good feedback in Alexis Crawford’s honor and is scheduled to meet with university leaders this week.
