Chesa Boudin, San Francisco’s newly elected district attorney, pledged not to prosecute public urination and other quality-of-life crimes.

- In recent years, San Francisco has been dealing with a surge of homeless encampments that block sidewalks and spread feces and urination. Just last year, San Francisco workers received 27,000 requests to pick up feces.
- In an effort to combat the sanitary conditions in San Francisco, the city developed the “Poop Patrol”. This consists of 6 city workers assigned to keep areas clean. In addition to this, they have also incorporated 25 bathrooms for usage by the homeless.
- Boudin is a former public defender and one of the many progressive candidates elected to district attorney offices across the country in recent years, according to Fox News.
- He went on to articulate his stance with “We will not prosecute cases involving quality-of-life crimes,” he said. “Crimes such as public camping, offering or soliciting sex, public urination, blocking a sidewalk, etc., should not and will not be prosecuted. Many of these crimes are still being prosecuted; we have a long way to go to decriminalize poverty and homelessness.”
Boudin’s campaign didn’t respond about any confirmation about the pledge.
