*Bill Maher has launched Club Random Studios, a podcast network focused on promoting “authenticity from unfiltered celebrity voices.”
The entertainment hub features Maher’s own podcast as well as new shows from NBA Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett, former ESPN host Sage Steele, and rock stars Billy Corgan and Fred Durst, NBC News reports.
“The Sage Steele Show” debuted March 27, and upcoming guests include Dana White, Howie Mandel, Sharon Osbourne, Jillian Michaels, Drea DeMatteo, Adam Carolla, Reggie Watts, and Steve Garvey.
“She’s the perfect choice to be our first new host because, like me, she pissed off Disney. There’s a certain poetic symmetry to that,” Maher said of Steele’s show in an interview with THR.
According to NBC News, Club Random will acquire Garnett’s podcast “KG Certified” and develop new shows in-house. Billy Corgan will host his own podcast on Club Random, while Fred Durst’s show will focus on UFOs and conspiracy theories.
In a statement, Maher said, “We talk like no one can cancel us.”
“People want to hear not just a few voices, like in the old days when there were three talk shows,” Maher shared with Variety. “These are people who I would be interested in listening to.”
Speaking about his podcast network to THR, the “Real Time” host said, “I am looking for people who are not talking point people. I’m looking for people who don’t, before they speak, say, ‘what’s the right answer here?’”
Maher said the team of hosts he has assembled “are not rookies, these are grown-ass adult, mature, fun, unafraid, people.”
He added, “So I don’t worry about them, and I certainly wouldn’t dream of micromanagement. I mean, they are their own people. And that’s what we want.”
