*The first trailer has dropped for “The Crow,” starring Bill Skarsgård and singer FKA Twigs.
The Rupert Sanders-directed remake arrives three decades following the 1994 film, featuring the late Brandon Lee, son of late martial artist and actor Bruce Lee. Brandon was age 28 when he died in an accidental shooting on set during production in 1993.
“Obviously, it was a terrible tragedy, and it’s definitely something that we’ve always had in mind through the making of the film,” Sanders’ told Vanity Fair. “Brandon was an original voice and I think he will always be synonymous with ‘The Crow,’ and I hope he’s proud of what we’ve done and how we’ve brought the story back again. His soul is very much alive in this film. There’s a real fragility and beauty to his version of the Crow, and I think Bill feels like he is a successor to that.”
Skarsgård stars as Eric in the new version, a man who is resurrected from the dead to bring justice to those who murdered him and his fiancée (FKA Twigs). Watch the new trailer above.

The original film and the upcoming remake are adapted from James O’Barr’s 1989 graphic novel. The first movie spawned three sequels, released in 1996, 2000, and 2005.
“What drew me to this was the opportunity to make a dark romance,” Sanders told Variety, adding, “something that dealt with loss, grief and the ethereal veil between life and death and reaching through that.”
Sanders told the publication that he “never did any tests between Bill and Twigs.”
“I had them for dinner when they first arrived [on set] in Prague and I was a bit like a nervous parent looking to see if there were any sparks, because you don’t know. And they were great. They hung out and were straight into it.”
“The Crow” arrives in theaters on June 7.
