An Iowa woman was accidentally killed at a gender reveal party.
What We Know:
- Pamela Kreimeyer, 56, was in attendance at a family member’s gender reveal party on Saturday, October 26 when she was killed instantly from a homemade device that detonated like a pipe bomb. The Marion County Sheriff’s office stated that the family wanted to come up with a creative way to announce the gender of the soon-to-be-here baby on social media.
- The device was meant to explode like a bomb, expelling out the colored powder of the big moment. The family members had welded a metal cylinder to a stand, packed it with gunpowder, and sealed it with tape.
- Iowa authorities say that the tape covering the top of the cylinder is what caused the gender surprise to take a turn for the worse. At the time of the explosion, Kreimeyer was standing 45 feet away from the object.
- When the bomb exploded, the debris from it struck Kreimeyer in her head before flying into the sky at 432 feet and then landing in a rural field nearby in Knoxville.
It’s unfortunate that a special event for the parents and child will always be connected to the accidental death of a loved one. Sending love and light to the Kreimeyer family as they celebrate the new addition, as well as, mourn the loss of another.
