*Family members of Wendy Williams are speaking out about her health ahead of Lifetime’s new documentary, “Where Is Wendy Williams?”
Wendy’s sister, Wanda Finnie, and niece, Alex Finnie, tell People that Williams is “in a wellness, healing type of environment.” to address cognitive issues. Wendy’s medical care team announced today that she was diagnosed last year with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
“I spoke with her yesterday and I speak with her very regularly when she reaches out to me. She is, from what I understand, in a wellness, healing type of environment,” Wanda said, per People.
“We cannot reach out to her, but she can reach out to us. And she is in a healing place emotionally. She’s not the person that you see in this film.”
Wanda and Alex also shared their thoughts on the upcoming raw and compelling Lifetime documentary filmed between 2022 and 2023. “Where is Wendy Williams?” chronicles Williams’ journey after her hit talk show was unexpectedly canceled.
Per the news release, the synopsis reads: “The documentary provides a raw, honest and unfiltered reality of Wendy’s life after she was placed under financial guardianship, shedding light on the vulnerabilities that has turned Wendy into the Hot Topic herself. Suffering mental and physical issues, Wendy’s delicate state of mind, erratic behavior and declining health were all captured by the cameras. Where is Wendy Williams? is the story of Wendy’s journey to resurrect her career, and what filmmakers discovered along the way. But many questions remain – who truly has Wendy’s best interest at heart? Is she healthy now? And Where is Wendy Williams?”
“I’m proud of my aunt for taking control of her narrative because my aunt has always been such a public person and has been an open book, and we’ve all seen the images over the last few months and really few years of what has been like a spiral for my aunt,” said Alex of Williams, who’s an executive producer on the project.
Whatever treatment Williams is receiving at the facility is not known to her family, but they say she appears to be doing well.
“She sounds really great,” said Alex.
“To hear my aunt now in terms of just how clear she is, just how focused she is on the importance of family and the reality in terms of facing and understanding where she’s at physically and mentally and emotionally, it is like a 180.”
