*OK, here’s the deal. Those recent reports saying that Kelly Rowland‘s departure from the set of “Today” was allegedly due to relentless questioning about Beyoncé, are bogus according to well-placed sources.
Insiders familiar with the situation told TMZ that Rowland arrived on set last Friday just before 8 AM, already fully prepared, only to express dissatisfaction with her dressing room immediately. According to these sources, “Today” staff acknowledged that their dressing rooms were known for being subpar.
Allegedly, Kelly and her team were displeased and inquired about the occupancy of another dressing room upstairs. Upon learning it was reserved for J Lo, they were presented with alternative options, none of which satisfied them so they abruptly decided to leave just 7 minutes before going on air.
Contrary to speculation, insiders assert that Savannah Guthrie’s questioning about Beyoncé during Kelly Rowland’s interview did not trigger her departure. Reports suggesting the Destiny’s Child singer and actress had a clause prohibiting questions about Beyoncé and the group are dismissed as inaccurate.
“Today” host Hoda Kotb referenced dressing room conditions while addressing the situation on Monday and agreed they are not the latest and greatest. Additionally, Sherri Shepherd addressed the dressing room issue on her show and showcased behind-the-scenes footage, highlighting disparities between Kelly’s dressing room and those provided by “Today.”
While Rowland may have shown frustration with questions about Beyoncé during interviews, it wasn’t the reason for her exit from “Today” on Friday; it was the dressing room problems, bottom line. Nonetheless, Rowland, who was there to promote her new Tyler Perry/Netflix film “Mea Culpa,” is always welcome to return to “Today” as a host or guest at any time, say the show’s sources.
