*In “Constellation” on Apple TV+, Noomi Rapace portrays an astronaut who comes back to an Earth that’s subtly altered.
Created by Peter Harness and directed by Emmy Award-winner Michelle MacLaren, the conspiracy-based space adventure stars Rapace as Jo – an astronaut who returns to Earth after a disaster in space – only to discover that key pieces of her life seem to be missing. The action-packed space adventure is an exploration of the dark edges of human psychology, and one woman’s desperate quest to expose the truth about the hidden history of space travel and recover all that she has lost, per the news release.
The series also stars Jonathan Bank, James D’Arcy, Julian Looman, William Catlett, Barbara Sukowa. and introduces Rosie and Davina Coleman as Alice.
During the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour on Feb 5, EUR’s Ny MaGee asked the cast about the show’s narrative and their character’s role within it.
“Jo’s journey as a mother and as a trained astronaut, where they’ve been so trained to just go for evidence, to be practical, to stay calm and to not get carried away by emotions, and throughout the series, how the conflict between her mind and her heart, it’s like an internal war,” Rapace said.

“Because an accident happens up there, she managed to get herself back to Earth to reunite with her baby, her daughter, which is really the core and the heartbeat in the series for me and that’s kind of what I wanted to come in and explore,” she added.
“… this one has a subject matter that I could relate to as a mother,” Rapace shared. “And her being trapped in this horrible situation of looking at this girl and her body and her primal instinct, her gut feeling is saying that this is not my baby, but she looks like my baby and no one believes me, that kind of journey she goes on to figure out what is going on and at the same time, the desperation to find her daughter to reunite, that drive just made this so special and rare and emotional.”
Catlett added, “I think for myself, it’s the raw emotions that every human being deals with, like regret and grief and how do you get through it? And I believe “Constellation” will — not only are you watching it, it’s going to actually watch you.”
D’Arcy noted that Noomi’s character is “desperately trying to reconnect with her child, but there’s the whole family unit there. And what Peter did brilliantly was he took this family and as soon as you meet them altogether, something seems weird already,” D’Arcy explained.
“I love that up against the backdrop of this big sci-fi,” he added.
