- On May 29, 2019, 22-year-old Dravon Ames and his pregnant fiancé, 24-year-old Aisha Harper, were threatened by Officer Chris Meyer because of a 99 cent doll that was possibly stolen at a store. The officer held the family at gun point, threatened, and shouted obscenities at them, according to NewsOne.
- Phoenix Police Chief Jeri Williams made an announcement regarding the decision. “The Disciplinary review board (DRB) recommended [Meyer] receive a six-week unpaid suspension, but the decision on discipline is mine,” Williams said. “And after meeting with Officer Chris Meyer personally, and considering all the facts of the case, I have notified him of my intention to terminate his employment.”
- Williams didn’t comment about the police kicking Ames while he was handcuffed on the ground. No other police involved in the incident have been fired.
Dravon Ames and Aisha Harper have announced that they won’t accept any apology from the police.
