Adults and children like comic conventions for the same reason—escapism. You don’t have to wait until Halloween to pay homage to your favorite comic or video game character. Even if you don’t cosplay, you can freely nerd out with others who share your passion.
Comic conventions aren’t just for DC and Marvel fans. It attracts gamers, furries, toy collectors, and nerds of all varieties. Whether this year or in the future, check out the comic cons in these cities.
New York Comic Con – New York City
Attendees descend on the Javits Center for four, fun-filled days. If you’re going for the first time, prepare to be overwhelmed in the best way.
One of the highlights of NYCC is the cosplay. Some attendees spend months putting their costumes together, with amazing results. There are panels, games, and booths selling just about everything you can imagine.
Set aside a few hours for Artist Alley. There’s an enormous amount of talent there, and you can network with new and established artists. As of now, single tickets are still available for October 12 and October 15.
MCM Comic Con – London and Birmingham
Check out two MCM Comic Cons in England. The most exciting one is in London on October 27-29, and the second is in Birmingham on December 1-3.
Indulge your inner gamer by playing new and retro video games. There are RPG and board games available for your enjoyment, too. If you love anime, manga and J-Pop/K-Pop, check out the Pop Asia section.
If your prop or your costume gets damaged, no worries. There’s a cosplay hospital on site that offers services for free.
San Diego Comic Con – San Diego
San Diego is a behemoth on the comic con front. SDCC is also one of the oldest cons, getting its start in 1970. At that time, it was called Golden State Comic Con, and there were just a few hundred attendees. That number has swelled, to say the least.
San Diego Comic Con 2023 featured over 1,000 exhibitors and scores of attendees. Expect the same energy July 25-28, 2024 at the San Diego Convention Center.
Palermo Comic Convention – Palermo
Palermo is the capital of Sicily and offers one of the biggest comic-centered conventions in Italy. Aside from the comics, you’ll find plenty of activities and attractions to keep you busy. There’s a games room, a cosplay contest and ample meet-and-greet opportunities.
The Palermo Comic Convention recently passed, taking place on September 14-17 at the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa.
