Switching up date nights is a great way to keep things fresh and fun in a relationship. Relationship experts say visiting museums is an excellent opportunity to broaden your perspectives by learning more about others. Broadening your views can be a valuable tool in the toolbox to foster healthy relationships.

Visiting museums with your significant other is also a great way to learn more about each other and can inspire other fun activities down the road. In a city known for its talented artists locally and worldwide, here are the best museums to visit in Los Angeles for date night.

The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens

The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens is a three-for-one date. Visitors benefit from exploring the world’s greatest research libraries with their collection of more than 11 million items from the 11th to the 21st centuries.

The Art Museum has over 45,000 art pieces, including decorative arts, paintings, sculptures, photos, and more.

Couples will find the real gem in the botanical gardens. The gardens stretch between 130 acres and feature a dozen themed gardens. It’s one of the most romantic places in Los Angeles for a stroll.

Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA)

Located in mid-city, LACMA’s unique building will spark conversation between couples upon arrival. The light grey architecture and red accents that make up the infrastructure is inviting.

LACMA is the largest art museum in the western United States. More than 150,000 pieces of art highlight approximately 6,000 years of artistic expression from around the world.

The Urban Light display is the highlight for couples visiting LACMA. Artist Chris Burden created this forest of city streetlights. It consists of 202 cast iron lamps that once lit the streets of Los Angeles and is a must-see display as it’s perfect for pictures.

The museum is free for LA County residents after 3 p.m. Be sure to check the website for exhibit closures and the museum’s concert series.

The Getty Center

The Getty Center Museum is a must-see. There are two locations: one in the hills and one near the ocean. Couples can choose between two vibes. The center in Brentwood is located off the west of the 405 freeway. While the museum showcases European art and modern architecture, the real highlight here is the bird’s-eye views of Los Angeles. It’s a stunning date, especially in the evening. It doesn’t get more romantic than this in LA.

The Getty Villa Museum sits along the coast, north of Santa Monica. Greek and Roman art is highlighted here in the Roman house. This is the perfect destination for pictures, with a beautiful landscape of freshly manicured trees and a pool.

The Broad

Couples can experience a two-for-one date at The Broad because they can head next door for dinner right after exploring the collections. The Broad Contemporary Art Museum is located in downtown LA. General admission is free to those who want to see the permanent collection. There are rotating temporary exhibitions that guests have to pay for. These tickets are timed, so getting them in advance is best.

The museum is home to more than 2,000 works of art in its innovating “veil and vault” concept across two floors. After your visit, head next door to Otium for dinner, lunch, brunch, cocktails, and Sunday supper.

Hauser & Wirth Contemporary & Modern Art Gallery

The energetic Hauser & Wirth Contemporary & Modern Art Gallery is in LA’s Arts District. It’s part of a global chain of other worldwide galleries displaying contemporary pieces in various styles that people can purchase.

The downtown LA location is a former flour mill turned gallery that also connects with the local community in its space. General admission is free.

In the center of Hauser & Wirth is Manuela Restaurant. The menu celebrates seasonal ingredients from farms and producers in Southern California.

A certified Wildlife Habitat garden is also located on the property that the National Wildlife Federation recognizes. The garden features a chicken coop and fresh herbs and vegetables to support Manuela.
