*Whoopi Goldberg returned to “The View” Monday wearing a folding chair necklace referencing the Montgomery riverfront brawl.

When Season 27 of “The View” debuted last week, Goldberg was missing in action as she was battling her third bout with COVID. The 67-year-old actress is presumably vaccinated and boosted.  When she returned to her moderator’s seat, Goldberg made a bold statement about the Montgomery Brawl by wearing a necklace with a silver folding chair pendant. It was inspired by Reggie Ray, who used a white folding chair during the riverfront melee last month to hit several people. He was ultimately arrested and charged with disorderly conduct during the infamous brawl in Montgomery, Alabama on August 5.

We reported previously that the fracas began on the Montgomery Riverfront when a group of white people refused a Black dock worker’s request to move their pontoon boat from a space reserved for the city’s riverboat, which was carrying 227 passengers.

Viral videos show a confrontation between Kittrell’s deckhand, Damien Pickett, and pontoon boaters. Pickett attempts to reason with the intoxicated group and video shows him attempting to push the pontoon boat a few feet to make room for the riverboat. Bystander video shows a white man rushing Pickett and punching him in the face.

Ray’s arrest came after four white boaters were charged with misdemeanor assault against Dameion Pickett, the Black co-captain of a riverboat on the waterfront.

A GoFundMe page was also launched for Ray and raised over $300k.

“Funds raised here will be used to offset the cost of certain damages incurred by my clients and others involved in responding to the chaos at the riverfront,” a post on the page said. “These damages include but are not limited to medical bills, lost wages/earnings, professional services, travel, lodging and expenses.”

As Complex reports, Goldberg shared her thoughts on the brawl, saying … “I have to lead this off by saying we do not condone violence on this show. … But there was a story that happened last month in Montgomery, Alabama where a riverboat captain [with] 227 passengers was trying to dock his boat in the spot he’s supposed to be in. The co-captain, who happened to be Black, went to confront this pontoon boat that was in the way. … So a fight ensued and something happened that we have not seen.”

She continued, “Black people came out of nowhere. We dropped out of the sky. It was crazy. … The memes are off the hook. I am wearing a folding chair.”
