Check Out These “Three Peaks Challenges” Around The World – Travel Noire

There’s climbing one mountain, and there are three peaks challenges. If you aren’t familiar, the goal entails climbing three mountains in roughly 24 hours.

Aside from being a workout, these challenges add spice to your travels. Adventure tour operators host them in destinations around the world. Some people climb for charity, while others do it for the love of sport.

If this speaks to you, check out these three peaks challenges.

The National Three Peaks Challenge – United Kingdom

This challenge will expose your lack of conditioning if you don’t prepare. Several adventure tour operators lead these expeditions though Scotland, England and Wales. While it is possible to spread them over a few days, that technically doesn’t fit the challenge.

The first mountain is Scotland’s Ben Nevis at 4,413 feet. Next, there’s Scafell Pike in England at 3,209 feet. Finally, there’s Wales, home of Snowdon. If you’ve never been to the UK, here’s one thing to know: rain is common all year round. Dress accordingly, and bring layers to take off and put on as needed.

The St. Lucia Three Peaks Challenge – St. Lucia

If the British cold doesn’t appeal, book a trip to pretty St. Lucia.

This year, the island launched a three peaks challenge, which includes Gros Piton, Petit Piton and Mount Gimie. The 758 Adventurers Group hosts the climb.

Petit Piton should be the first you climb, since it’s the most technical.

The Mexico Three Peaks Challenge – Mexico

Head to Mexico for the adventure of a lifetime. Much Better Adventures leads expeditions up La Malinche, Iztaccihuatl and Pico de Orizaba. The climbs are usually done from March to October.

Depending on the tour operator, you’ll need to set aside eight days to two weeks to climb safely. However, the sense of accomplishment afterwards will be worth it.

Spanish Three Peaks Trek – Spain

Sierra Nevada National Park is home to mainland Spain’s tallest peaks: Veleta, Alcazaba, and Mulhacén.

Mulhacén is the tallest at 11,424 feet. Make sure you have experience with altitude changes and climbing mostly rugged terrain.
