House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced an official Impeachment inquiry into President Trump on Tuesday.
What We Know:
- The inquiry comes shortly after the release of a whistleblower complaint that reveals the President’s conversation with the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The complaint reveals that Trump asked the Ukrainian President to “play ball” and dig up information that discusses the issue of “corruption” regarding Joe Biden and his son Hunter, reports CNN.
- “Today, I am announcing the House of Representatives is moving forward with an official impeachment inquiry. The President must be held accountable. No one is above the law. Actions taken to date by the President have seriously violated the Constitution,” Pelosi said at Capitol Hill.
- Pelosi ended her remarks by stating that, “the actions of the Trump Presidency revealed the dishonorable fact of the President’s betrayal of his oath of office, the betrayal of our national security, and the betrayal of integrity of our elections.” According to Fox News, Pelosi says that the Trump administration violated the law by not turning over the whistleblower complaint of Trump and the Ukrainian President’s conversation that was held in July.
- Since Pelosi’s announcement, the whistleblower’s complaint transcript has revealed that Trump informed the Ukrainian President of what would happen if he did not comply with the requests of his 2020 re-election. Trump allegedly implied that the Ukraine would no longer receive help from the United States if the President did not assist him, reports MSNBC.
- 165 Democrats in the House announced their support of the inquiry, with many not accounted for and a few hold outs.
