*Netflix has dropped the trailer for “Rustin,” a new film coming from Higher Ground, the production company founded by Barack and Michelle Obama.
As we reported previously, “Rustin” tells the story of charismatic, gay, civil rights activist Bayard Rustin, who overcame an onslaught of obstacles and altered the course of American history by organizing the 1963 March on Washington.
Colman Domingo (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Zola, Candyman, Euphoria) leads the cast as Rustin. Chris Rock also stars as activist Roy Wilkins; Glynn Turman is A. Philip Randolph and Audra McDonald portrays Ella Baker.
Here is the official description via Urban Hollywood 411: “The architect of 1963’s momentous March on Washington, Bayard Rustin was one of the greatest activists and organizers the world has ever known. He challenged authority, never apologized for who he was, what he believed, or who he desired. And he did not back down. He made history, and in turn, he was forgotten.”
