Humberto Gains Strength Turning into a Category 1 Hurricane

Tropical storm Humberto has gained enough strength to develop into a category 1 hurricane.

What We Know:

  • Forecasters expected Humberto to pass through the northwestern Bahamas, Bermuda, and the southeastern U.S. coast throughout the next few days. However, the storm has moved further east into the Atlantic Ocean away from land.
  • As we know, the Bahamas is still recovering from Hurricane Dorian which left 1,300 people missing and caused approximately 50 deaths. Parts of the country are severely damaged, and many residents are displaced because of Hurricane Dorian. The Bahamas was lucky enough to dodge Humberto as the National Hurricane Center reported that the storm passed with sustained winds of 75 mph.
  • High tides and heavy rains could cause potential flooding in some areas therefore it is advised that residents take precaution in order to stay safe until the storm has completely passed their areas.
  • They also expect central Florida and North Carolina to feel some wrath of the storm in the coming days as the storm hits the southeastern coast of the United States.
  • Forecasters have warned of potential dangerous rip currents which are likely to develop as Humberto’s wind speed increases. Rip currents pose as a huge threat for swimmers and could cause drowning for anyone in the path of a rip current which moves at a high speed.

We advise that everyone proceeds with caution and continues to track the storm for their safety.
