‘Johnson’ Brings Another Hot Season For The Black Community! | Watch

*The hit series “Johnson” provides a rare opportunity to take a deep-dive look into the minds of how four Black male friends navigate life’s ever-changing scenarios!

Currently in its third season on Bounce TV – the show premiered August 5, 2023 – “Johnson” is presenting many of these scenarios to a growing adoring audience on a silver platter.  The show’s creator and writer, Deji LaRayThomas Q. Jones (the series showrunner), Derrex Brady and Philip Smithey play the roles of Greg, Omar, Jarvis and Keith, respectively, who all carry the last name Johnson and grew up more like brothers than friends. “Johnson,” which is executive produced by industry heavyweights Cedric The Entertainer, Eric Rhone and Reesha L. Archibald, unearth truths in a “dramedy” manner that unequivocally effect and relate to the Black community such as gentrification, fatherhood, relationships, adoption, Black entrepreneurship and more.

In the midst of an on-going Hollywood strike where SAG/AFTRA members in solidarity with industry writers are demanding a list of must-haves in an effort to equal the playing field, David Hudson, the Head of Original Programming of Scripps Networks, participated in a virtual roundtable panel discussion to talk about the show, plus it was hosted by radio personality Big Tigger.

EURs Robin Ayers asked Hudson to expound on how the viewers’ feedback of the show’s topics may inform his decisions on future seasons or future shows.

“We do engage with our viewing community,” Hudson said. “We do take what they say very seriously.  It’s a part of conversation, continually.” Hudson underscored the importance for the “Johnson” team of keeping in close communication with fans by reading comments and engaging with their viewership.  He went on to explain, “It’s important, because we’re aiming to be relevant and to bring up topics that matter within our community.  We don’t consider ourselves the authority on Black culture, by any means, so we come at it with open minds, open heart, and we address things in a timely fashion and bring forward those ideas in each season.”

Watch Hudson explain what it’s like to work with the guys behind the hit show below.

You can watch “Johnson” on Bounce TV, Saturdays 8/7c and streaming on Brown Sugar App the next day.
