*After working diligently for Burger King for 27 years (without missing a day), Kevin Ford was surprised with $400,000 by his colleagues and supporters.
He received the well-deserved gift after initially getting a measly gift bag on his anniversary last year. When his story went viral in 2022, donations poured in on GoFundMe after a video on Twitter showed the gift bag he received in recognition of his 27 years with the fast-food chain. It contained a bag of Reese’s, a Starbucks reusable cup, two pens, and one movie ticket, according to Upworthy.
“Some people got nothing, so I was just happy to get anything,” Ford said in an interview at the time.
Ford has never missed a day of working as a cook and cashier at the Burger King in the Las Vegas McCarran International Airport. In a TMZ interview, he admitted to feeling “let down” by the bag of treats, as previous employees received monetary gifts.
As Black News reports, a year after a GoFundMe page for him was started, the campaign has raised over $400,000.
After his story went viral on social media, it was Ford’s daughter, Seryna, who created a GoFundMe page. She wrote, “My dad continues to work here, because though he does look young, he is coming up on retirement age and leaving would cost him his retirement In no way are we asking for money or is he expecting any money but if anyone feels like blessing him he would love to visit his grandchildren.”
“Saturday Night Live” alum, David Spade, reportedly donated $5,000 to the campaign.
Ford said he took on the job at BK nearly 30 years ago after he was granted full custody of his two eldest daughters.
His BK story brought Ford and his daughter together on national TV after being separated for four years, per Black News.
