*Hasan Minhaj, former correspondent of “The Daily Show” is reportedly being considered to take over the hosting duties following Trevor Noah’s exit late last year.

Noah announced his departure in September, telling fans and viewers in a video statement: “There are so many people who make this thing come together, and I want to say thank you to the audience for an amazing seven years,” he said, PEOPLE reported.

“It’s been wild. I remember when we first started, so many people didn’t believe in us. It was a crazy bet to make. I still think it was a crazy choice… What a journey it’s been,” he continued.

In his final broadcast in December, Noah bid an emotional farewell to loyal viewers and thanked the Black women in his life for being a guiding force.

“I’ve often been credited with having these grand ideas — people are like, ‘Oh Trevor, you’re so smart’ — and I’m like, ‘Who do you think teaches me? Who do you think has shaped me, nourished me, informed me,’ you know?” Noah said as he went on to praise his mom, grandmother, aunts, and Black women who have had a great impact on his life,” Noah said.

“I always tell people, if you truly want to learn about America, talk to Black women because unlike everybody else, Black women can’t afford to f— around and find out,” a visibly emotional Noah added.

Since Noah left, the late-night show has had a rotating roster of celebrity guest hosts such as comedians Al Franken, Chelsea Handler, D.L. Hughley, Leslie Jones, John Leguizamo, Kal Penn, Wanda Sykes, Sarah Silverman, and Marlon Wayans, as well as current correspondents Roy Wood Jr., Ronny Chieng, Desi Lydic and Jordan Klepper, per Page Six. However, a permanent host has yet to be named.

According to Variety, Minhaj, 37, is being strongly considered to host the show permanently. He served as a “Daily Show” cast member between 2014 and 2018.

“I’m definitely open to the conversation,” Minhaj shared with Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast in May about permanently taking over, New York Daily News reports. “It’s also a family conversation now. It’s a very different conversation then when I first got hired at the show when I was 29. My life is in a very different place. … It changes a lot of things.”
