If there’s one thing the Caribbean isn’t lacking, it’s beaches. From the sugary sands of Grace Bay in Turks and Caicos to Pig Beach in in The Bahamas, each stretch of sand is beautiful. If you’re looking to snorkel, float on calm waters or lounge around on the sand, there are a lot of options.
These five beaches are among the most famous in the Caribbean.
Grace Bay Beach — Turks and Caicos
Grace Bay Beach is a slice of heaven on earth. Resorts and private villas are set up along this breathtaking stretch of coastline.
If you’re looking to ring in the new year in Turks and Caicos, this fireworks show is amazing here.
Laughing Waters Beach — Jamaica
This beach’s claim to fame was an appearance in the first Bond Film. However, its history far predates that movie.
Its clear waters and soft sand have enticed visitors for generations. One of its best features is the waterfall, which flows into the sea.
Laughing Waters Beach is about a 20-minute drive from Ocho Rios.
Sugar Beach — St. Lucia
For more of the white sand experience, check out Sugar Beach (or Jalousie Beach).
There’s a resort on one end, while the other is freely open to the public. If you’re interested in snorkeling, Sugar Beach is for you. You don’t have to venture too far out to find tropical fish and coral.
Pig Beach — The Bahamas
Want to pet or swim with adorable pigs? No one knows exactly how they got to Big Major Cay, since they aren’t native to the island. If they aren’t swimming, they’re lounging in the shade someplace.
The beach itself is surprisingly pristine considering the animal inhabitants. While the pigs here are mostly docile, they sometimes bite.
Orient Bay — St. Martin
This beach is nicknamed “the St. Tropez of the Caribbean.” Some consider it the best beach on the French side, if not the entire island.
Aside from the tranquil waters, there’s plenty of bars and restaurants to patronize. Water sports equipment, parasols and loungers are available to rent.
