*Shaquille O’Neal got a huge assist from a gaggle of children who jokingly believe they saved the former NBA star from drowning.
The 51-year-old was on vacation in Hawaii last weekend and found himself in a resort pool with a bunch of vacationing little ones. In the viral TikTok clip posted by Daniel Chavez, Shaq is seen telling the children, “I’m drowning,” before falling sideways into the water. The tickled kids then rush to keep him above water. In a second video, O’Neal high-fives all the kids after they save him.
Per People, tags on Chavez’s social media explain that the videos were taken at a resort on the island of Kaua’i in Hawaii. Chavez also shared pics of himself and O’Neal posing in the lobby of their hotel, and told folks in the comments of his original TikTok video that Shaq “was actually so cool.” He added in response to another TikTok commenter, “He’s mad humble.”

When reached by People for comment, Chavez said, again. that Shaq, “was such a humble and sweet guy, and after ‘being saved by the kids,’ he was handing out high fives to the kids. . . . I talked to him for a little bit about his music and he said he gets his inspiration from concerts he goes to and from his own kids. I gave him a fist bump and let him hang out with the rest of his family.”
According to a promotional flyer, O’Neal was in Hawaii to perform a July 14th show in Honolulu as DJ Diesel, his disc spinning alter-ego. Chavez also said he saw O’Neal perform at their shared hotel. He told People that during the concert, O’Neal “let a ton of the kids on the stage.”
