*In his new song “Famous,” rapper/singer DDG opens up about his insecurities in his relationship with Halle Bailey.
As People reports, in one part of the song, he refers to Bailey kissing her costar Jonah Hauer-King in “The Little Mermaid,” rapping: “I’m tryna figure out what we gon’ do/How we gon’ get to the top?/Filmin’ a movie now you kissing dudes/You know I love you a lot/I don’t give a fuck if that shit for promo/I don’t wanna see this shit no more.”
The artist was also left feeling some way about Bailey holding hands with Hauer-King during the U.K. premiere of their movie. He says on the track: “Why is y’all holdin’ hands in the photo? / You know I’m insecure, that’s a no-no.”
Now DDG is catching heat over the new song, with social media users calling him a “failed rapper.”
“They’re calling me a failed rapper right now yea, so it’s starting back up,” the Michigan native said in response to the critics, Complex reports. “I want y’all to know, listen, ‘Famous’ is just a song okay? It’s just music y’all. Just how movies is just movies, songs is just songs.

He continued, “Y’all gotta relax and worry about y’all own stuff, and its all entertainment. It’s the entertainment business. Relax, calm down, chill out you know it is what it is, I’m used to getting hated on.”
DDG released his new album titled “Maybe It’s Me” on Friday and “Famous is the lead single that went viral over its lyrical content. In the chorus of the song, he describes his complicated feelings for Bailey, saying: “Fall in love, I hate that s— / Knockin’ me off my grind, I can’t f— with relationships / I ain’t even got enough time in a day for me to chase a bitch / I don’t even ask for much, I ask you to do the basic s— / Hardest thing I did was fall in love with a famous bitch.”
One person tweeted in response to the DDG’s new single, “Sometimes your biggest haters are those right next to you. So sad.”
Another Twitter user wrote, “It’s The Little Mermaid.. you didn’t know she kisses the prince?”
Meanwhile, Hauer-King previously had this to say about Bailey: “She was such a very good friend to me. I looked at her and I thought ‘You have so much weight on your shoulders, so much pressure and you’re carrying this film and you’re carrying it with such grace that I need to try to and aspire to that.’ So anytime I was feeling like a bit daunted, I looked up to her and she was being seamlessly effortless.”
