Shaun Livingston announces retirement from the NBA after a 15-year career and three championship.
What We Know:
- The 15 year NBA veteran, Shaun Livingston, has announced his retirment from the NBA. Livingston spent the past five years with the Golden State Warriors, winning three championships.
- Livingston signed a three year, $24 million contract with the Warriors in 2017. The San Francisco Chronicle veteran guard was informed he could rejoin the Warriors in the front office.
- Livingston was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft by the Clippers. As the season, started Livingston was injured in a single play and was held back by his torn ACL, PCL, and meniscus. He also sprained his MCL, dislocated his patella, and tibiofibular joint.
- Despite long medical odds, Livingston returned from the injury and played another 11 seasons in the league.
- Livingston said, “The injury gave me a chance to find and prove to myself [and the world] that I wouldn’t be defined by my circumstances,” Livingston wrote. “With my time in the league what I will be most proud of is the fact that my character, values and faith were tested, and I persevered.”
- Livingston had previously expressed interest in a return to the Los Angeles Clippers in an interview with Dave Reynolds of The Journal Star which would have brought his career full circle.
- Livingston played for the Miami Heat, Oklahoma City Thunder, Washington Wizards, Charlotte Bobcats, Milwaukee Bucks, Cleveland Cavaliers and Brooklyn Bets before finding a long term home with Golden State.
Livingston could have found a roster spot this season, even if he had to wait for it, but he has decided to hang it up and end his career on his own terms. I don’t blame him.
