*A Colorado couple used ChatGPT to officiate their wedding last month.
ChatGPT (Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer) is an artificial intelligence chatbot developed by OpenAI. According to a CBS News report, Reece Wiench and Deyton Truitt tied the knot at the historic church in the Morrison area and it was the bride’s father’s idea to incorporate AI (artificial intelligence) into the festivities.
“At first, it told me, ‘I’m sorry. I can’t do this. I don’t have eyes. I don’t have a body,’” Stephen Wiench, Reece’s dad, told KCNC-TV.
The state allows for there to be no officiant to perform a wedding ceremony “so long as both partners agree,” the groom noted, Complex reports.
Some of ChatGPT’s generated comments for the couple can be heard in the YouTibe video below:
“We are honored and grateful to each and every one of you here, especially those who have traveled out of state,” the AI voice is heard saying.
“During the ceremony, I will eloquently express the significance of this historic moment and the limitless possibilities that arise when love and technology intersect,” the bot wrote.
The couple did not know what exactly the AI bot would say during the ceremony, so they wrote their own vows, Fox News reports.
“ChatGPT took something personal to humans like a wedding and enhanced it,” Wiench said.
“We are honored and grateful to each and every one of you here, especially those who have traveled out of state – notably, Kansas,” the chatbot said during the wedding.
