*A follow-up to Sandra Bullock’s 2018 hit movie “Bird Box” is on the way from Netflix. This time, the tale will center on a new story set in Spain.
“This is a new story with new characters but with a premise that already was attractive: You need to cover your eyes outdoors,” actor Mario Casas People about the sequel titled “Bird Box Barcelona.”
“I think what will really attract fans from the first installment is that we, as fans, were left waiting to know more,” Casas added.
Casas continued, “We wanted to know why they couldn’t see, why this was happening. I can’t explain a lot, but this new film gets to develop the story further — this will catch you until the end, which is very different from the ending of the previous film. We will find out more about what is hiding behind the blindfolds.”
Written and directed by Álex Pastor and David Pastor, the synopsis for “Bird Box Barcelona” reads: “After a mysterious force decimates the world’s population, Sebastian must navigate his own survival journey through the desolate streets of Barcelona. As he forms uneasy alliances with other survivors and they try to escape the city, an unexpected and even more sinister threat grows.”
Bullock will not star in the new film, which is described as an “expansion” of the first movie. According to Netflix’s Tudum, the sequel “takes place at the same time as Bird Box.”
“Bird Box Barcelona” will debut on Netflix July 14.
