Travelers will have new warm-weather destination choices as American Airlines announces its winter 2023 flights for the Caribbean and Latin America. With the addition of two new routes and increased frequencies on 21 existing routes, American Airlines increases its nonstop flights between the United States and Mexico, the Caribbean, and Latin America.
José A. Freig, Vice President of Operations and Commercial for Mexico, the Caribbean, and Latin America, expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming winter season, stating, “This coming winter, we’re excited to offer more services to the Latin American and Caribbean destinations that our customers want to visit. This includes popular spots such as Cancun, Montego Bay, and Punta Cana, as well as our newest addition, Tortola.”
Freig further emphasized American Airlines’ commitment to maintaining its status as the largest U.S. airline in the region, providing more flights and seats to a greater number of destinations than any other carrier or partnership.
During winter 2023, American Airlines plans to operate over 2,250 weekly flights for the Caribbean and Latin America. Its flight schedule serves 90 destinations throughout the region, marking a notable 10% increase in seat capacity compared to the previous winter season.
Expanded Service from Charlotte
Effective December 5, American Airlines will expand its services on 10 routes departing from Charlotte (CLT) throughout the winter. This expansion grants customers a wider range of options, with a 40% increase in seat availability from CLT to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Latin America compared to winter 2022.
The following routes will experience enhanced service:
- Belize City, Belize (BZE): Expanded to daily service
- Cancun, Mexico (CUN): Increased to five daily flights
- Curaçao (CUR): Expanded to daily service
- Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR): Expanded to daily service
- Los Cabos, Mexico (SJD): Expanded to daily service
- Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ): Increased to four daily flights
- Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic (POP): Expanded to daily service
- Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (PUJ): Increased to four daily flights
- San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU): Increased to four daily flights
- St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands (STX): Expanded to daily service
More Routes to Mexico
Commencing December 9, American will introduce new nonstop flights to Cancun, Mexico (CUN) from Nashville, Tennessee (BNA), and Cincinnati (CVG). Service from BNA and CVG will be available on Saturdays through March. These new routes complement the airline’s existing peak-day flights to Cancun, which include the recently announced second daily service from Austin, Texas (AUS), commencing on November 5.
Additionally, American Airlines plans to increase service to seven popular Mexican destinations from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), providing travelers with over 50 daily departures from DFW to Mexico. The following destinations will experience increased service:
- Acapulco (ACA): Expanded to three weekly flights
- Huatulco (HUX): Expanded to four weekly flights
- Monterrey (MTY): Increased to five daily flights
- Puerto Vallarta (PVR): Increased to four daily flights
- Los Cabos (SJD): Increased to five daily flights
- Zacatecas (ZCL): Expanded to daily service
- Zihuatanejo (ZIH): Expanded to daily service
Enhanced Connectivity to the Caribbean from Miami
American Airlines is set to strengthen Miami’s (MIA) position as the largest gateway between the U.S. and Latin America and the Caribbean with increased departures for the upcoming winter season. With over 140 daily flights to 70 destinations, American Airlines offers an industry-leading schedule and a wide variety of options for travelers to explore the region. Building on the recently announced expansion of long-haul flights to Buenos Aires, Argentina (EZE), and Rio de Janeiro (GIG), American Airlines will now focus on growing its service to popular holiday destinations.
The following routes will experience increased service:
- Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago (POS): Increased to two daily flights
- Santiago, Dominican Republic (STI): Increased to two daily flights
- Tortola, British Virgin Islands (EIS): Increased to two daily flights
