Aaliyah – ABC News’ “Superstar: Aaliyah”

*The life and legacy of Aaliyah will be chronicled in the upcoming ABC News special “Superstar: Aaliyah.”

The hour-long special will follow the R&B sensation who carved out her own niche in the genre with unique Timbaland-crafted sounds and vocal stylings that would influence generations to come as both a culture and fashion pioneer.

The special will also provide insight on her underage marriage to R. Kelly, who has since been convicted as a sex offender, and her continued impact on the industry.

Interviews for the segment include Aaliyah’s former boyfriend, Damon Dash, her uncle and manager Barry Hankerson, and recording engineer/producer Jimmy Douglass. Justine Skye, Sevyn Streeter, and will.i.am also make appearance to discuss how Aaliyah influenced their respective careers.

Additionally, clothing designer Karl Kani will reflect on what it was like to style the star, and designer-stylist Aleali May opens up on Aaliyah being her “enduring sartorial muse.”

Tune in for the special “Superstar: Aaliyah” on Wednesday, June 14 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC. It will be available to stream on Hulu the following day.
