Passport Bro Describes Why He Only Dates Internationally – Travel Noire

If you talk to most Gen-Z and millennial Americans, they’re more than likely to tell you that the dating scene is trash. No matter what state they live in, the general consensus is that dating in 2023 is challenging, to say the least. Whether it’s unlimited access to too many people, unrealistic expectations due to social media, or married people clogging up the scene, everyone agrees that it’s hard out here in the dating streets.

Have you ever considered solely dating folks who lived internationally?

Some American men are putting this idea to the test. The self-proclaimed “Passport Bros” are leaving US soil with the hopes of finding love abroad. One digital nomad recently went viral on TikTok describing why being a passport bro was the best approach to dating for American singles.

Dating Across The Pond

Austin Abeyta’s TikTok video detailing his experience as a passport bro in South America left online users divided. The video reached over 420 million views and people had a lot to say about Abeyta’s viewpoint.

In the video, the digital nomad says dating abroad has been better than dating in the US for three reasons. The first reason is that foreigners perceive the American accent as “exotic,” giving US citizens an advantage in the international dating arena.

“I know it sounds crazy, but you have an accent,” Abeyta, 31, said in the video. “The American accent is kind of trash” but still “gives everything you say a little bit of weight, a little bit of spice.”

Abeyta went on to say that dating people in other countries also adds more excitement to the dating scene because they’re excited to show Americans around their city. Lastly, he insinuated that most foreigners believe Americans are all rich so it makes it easier to attract potential partners.

Is This The Best Route For American Singles?

Many men in the comments chimed in on Abeyta’s video saying they’d experienced similar things dating abroad.

“Being a tall white dude with even a small amount of money relatively was the biggest cheat code in Peru dude,” @meliadonpepe wrote on TikTok.

With more than 16 million Americans working abroad as digital nomads in 2022, Abeyta’s passport bro theory may appear to be the best choice for those making a living internationally. However, other online users disagreed with this approach and compared it to “receiving a mail-order bride”.

“I think it’s weird to solely go to another country, especially the poorer ones just to get at women bc ur Americans,” one user commented.

Abeyta stood firm on his beliefs saying this his monetary advantages make it easier to attract beautiful women abroad than in the US where his funds don’t stretch as far.

“It’s not just to get a woman,” Abeyta said. ‘You are also traveling the world learning about cultures and saving money while you do it.”
