With the launch of Live Activities for iPhone on May 22, United Airlines became the first U.S. airline to offer its customers real-time access to their flight information on the Lock Screen or while unlocked in the Dynamic Island. Already, nearly 800,000 customers check their mobile boarding passes and flight statuses daily. This new feature makes it even easier and faster for them to receive timely updates and find important flight details.
Live Activities on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max allow United customers to have access to their boarding pass, gate and seat numbers, a countdown clock to departure time, flight number, on-time status, and status of any incoming aircraft. When it’s time to go through security or board the plane, they can simply open their boarding pass from the Live Activity and scan it. Moreover, customers can conveniently learn about their arrival times and baggage claim location from the Dynamic Island.
United passengers can now begin receiving this service, and by the end of May, it will be available to everyone. To take advantage of these enhancements, customers should ensure they are using an iPhone with iOS 16.1 or later and the most recent version of the United app.
Known for Its Customization Features
United’s mobile app is known for its customization features, ease of use, and accessibility for the visually impaired, with up to 3 million users interacting with the app daily. The airline has been at the forefront of app innovation, regularly releasing features such as:
Agent on Demand: United’s virtual customer service tool eliminates the need to wait in line at the airport to speak with a representative. Agent on Demand had 1.3 million users in 2018 and has already seen 192,000 users in 2023.
Map Search: This interactive tool allows passengers to quickly and easily find flights that suit their needs in terms of price, duration of stay, and desired destination. United’s app and website both feature this handy digital tool, which plots prices on a map, enabling customers to compare different cities and countries easily.
In addition, United has created a one-stop digital assistant on United.com and the United app called the Travel Preparation Center. It helps customers prepare for their trip and breeze through the airport without stopping for manual document checks. Furthermore, the Terminal Guide on the day of the flight provides step-by-step directions from home to the departure gate, ensuring a smooth journey.
“We’re seeing soaring demand for travel this summer, and Live Activities puts all the flight information you need right at your fingertips, whether your iPhone is locked or you’re doing something else like checking email, listening to music or texting friends,” said Linda Jojo, chief customer officer for United. “It’s going to save passengers a lot of time, and we think they’re going to love it, especially during a busy travel season.”
