*On a recent episode of his “Nappy Boy Radio” podcast T-Pain said his earlier music highlights that he was “always the simp” and how Drake is now the king of “simp” music.
According to the Urban Dictionary, a “simp” is slang for “someone who will do nice things for his crush in order to win her affection,” including parting ways with a ridiculous amount of money.
During the podcast, T-Pain said, “I had zero confidence in any of my music. I was always the simp, remember? I was always wishing for a girl.”
As The Blast reports, he then listed his most notable simp songs, such as “Bartender,” “I’m Sprung,” and “I’m In Love With A Stripper.”
“‘I’m Sprung’ — that was about me simply to hell—first real simp joint. ‘I’m In Love With A Stripper’ — never said I ever got her. I just said I liked her a bunch. ‘Bartender’ — never took her anywhere. She was just a bartender. I never said we fucked or anything. Just me simply from afar,” T-Pain explained, per Insider,
Music journalist Rob Markman commented, “We need that back in music, though.” To which T-Pain replied, “Simpin’? No, I think Drake got it covered.”
Elsewhere in the conversation, T-Pain confirmed that he used to get paid for every artist that used Auto-Tune.
“Yeah. Absolutely. It was nuts; it was crazy. Some people volunteered, and others didn’t know, which was great. Diddy volunteered. Diddy gave me points on ‘Last Train To Paris’ ’cause he used Auto-Tune,” he said.
