*The Black Hollywood Education and Resource Center’s (BHERC) Opening Night Celebration of the 30th annual, “Sista’s Are Doin’ It For Themselves Short Film Showcase” is Friday, May 19th, 2023.
This milestone has been long in the making, and through the support of so many members and others, BHERC is blessed to see it come to fruition.
A special thank you, and great appreciation goes out to Ralph Scott who planted the seed for this program and served as BHERC’s first director and to John Forbes, BHERC’s current director, who has provided so much to keep this great legacy going.
The Opening Night celebration will be held at the Director’s Guild of America,7920 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA. This year, as always, an array of remarkable individuals will join the celebration. Wendy Raquel Robinson, will keep the evening moving as host. The incomparable director, Debbie Allen, will serve as our guest speaker; along with celebrated directors: Neema Barnette, Dianne Houston, and Numa Perrier, who are joining the event as presenters and panelists.
Over 1,062 submissions were received for the “Sista’s” festival this year and of those, the very best 45 films were chosen. 23 of those will be shown throughout the weekend for the in-person festival and showcase, May 19th-21st.
