Frontier Airlines introduced a new route from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta to Santo Domingo, which began operating this week. According to Frontier, the new service runs twice a week, with introductory fares as low as $79. This makes it easier than ever for travelers to visit Santo Domingo and experience all it has to offer.
Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, is becoming a new hotspot in the Caribbean, despite Punta Cana being the go-to destination for most travelers. Home to the Colonial Zone, one of the most fascinating historic areas in the Caribbean, Santo Domingo also boasts a growing entertainment and shopping scene, increasingly attracting travelers, especially from the United States. This results from years of effort by Dominican tourism officials to diversify the country’s tourism offering. It is now starting to pay off, with a wave of new flights from cities across the United States to Santo Domingo’s Las Americas International Airport.
The Colonial Zone is a must-visit attraction in Santo Domingo, with its charming cobblestone streets and beautiful Spanish colonial architecture. Visitors can stroll through the zone and explore the many historic buildings and landmarks, such as the Alcázar de Colón, the former home of Christopher Columbus’ son Diego. The area also boasts numerous museums, galleries, and restaurants, making it an ideal place to spend a day or two.
Santo Domingo’s entertainment and shopping scene is also growing rapidly, with a range of new venues and experiences. The city is home to several large shopping malls, including the Agora Mall and the Blue Mall, as well as countless independent boutiques and markets. For those seeking a night out, there are plenty of bars, clubs, and casinos to choose from, particularly in the trendy Piantini and Naco neighborhoods.
“Atlanta is one of our fastest growing markets and serves as a large international gateway for Frontier,” said Daniel Shurz, Senior Vice President of Commercial at Frontier, according to the Caribbean Journal. “We’re pleased our growth at ATL means even more affordable and convenient travel options for those across the Atlanta metro.”
Frontier Airlines has recently expanded its Caribbean Basin routes by introducing a nonstop route between Atlanta and Guatemala City. The service operates twice a week, adding to the airline’s growing regional presence. This comes in addition to Frontier’s new route from Atlanta to Santo Domingo. With affordable introductory fares, Frontier is making it easier for travelers to explore new destinations in the Caribbean and Central America.
