*Bill Bellamy, who famously came up with the phrase “booty call” in one of his standup comedy bits in the 90s, was asked to comment on the threat of artificial intelligence (or AI) coming to take over a bunch of jobs, including his.
According to TMZ, Bellamy finds the technology “interesting” when used in music, but says an AI-written standup set would never be able to match his own joke-writing.
“Oh hell no, you can’t write my jokes. I’m a beast out here in these streets. What we need to do is AI women,” he said to the female TMZ videographer, who took offense. “So that yall will listen.”
Bellamy was the first to reframe the term “hook-up” as a “booty call,” and says he now regrets not having the it trademarked. The phrase is now in the Merriam-Webster dictionary, and a film of the same name was made in 1997 starring Jamie Foxx and Vivica A. Fox.
‘I didn’t trademark it in ’92, I didn’t know. I was so young. I didn’t know about that,” he said. “That would’ve been smart of me, because it’s been a lotta booty calls been made.”
Bellamy also gives a special shout to Foxx, who reportedly remains hospitalized due to an undisclosed condition. The comic says he’s gotten word that Jamie is recovering.
