Marvel’s ‘Blade’ Adds Nic Pizzolatto As Writer, Reuniting The ‘True Detective’ Creator And Mahershala Ali – Shadow and Act

Marvel’s Blade has added a new writer to the team.

True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto has signed on to write the vampire thriller starring Mahershala Ali. This new gig will reunite Pizzolatto with Ali, who starred in the third season of the HBO crime series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Pizzolatto is already working off of Michael Starrbury’s draft and has been keyboarding for a few weeks now.

This is the latest development in Blade‘s production. Just last month, the film added actress Mia Goth to the cast, which also features Delroy Lindo. The upcoming thriller also brought on Yann Demange as director after the original helmer Bassam Tariq stepped down from the role this past fall.

“Due to continued shifts in our production schedule, Bassam is no longer moving forward as director of Blade but will remain an executive producer on the film,” Marvel said in a statement at the time. “We appreciate Bassam’s talent and all the work he’s done getting Blade to where it is.”

Start of production for Marvel Studio’s Blade is scheduled for late May. The film has set a release date of Sept. 6, 2024.
