The ladies will lift you this Easter weekend!
Chloe Bailey and Anjelika Washington are cousins in “Praise This” – a new cinematic musical set in the world of Atlanta’s competitive gospel youth choir praise teams.
We spoke with the actresses about freestyles and fabrics.
Q: How much of the ‘make it rhyme with Jesus Christ karaoke’ scene did you ad lib?
CB: It was so much fun creating [that scene], even with pressure with Ari Lennox. I was like, ‘wait, guys. Can we flip this?’ There was a line or two in there that I actually did, it was really fun. It felt very normal and regular for me because of the covers I usually do. I got to do another cover but add God to it, so it was great.
Q: What was the most rewarding part of filming”Praise This?”
CB: The most rewarding part of filming, was the whole experience. Being a majority Black cast and being able to see us in a positive light, and not in any stereotypes. You get to see us as human beings. If you’re religious, you could love this film, but even if you’re not, you can still love it because it’s really about finding yourself. It’s funny, positive and has a really deep message.
Q: What was the most challenging part of filming”Praise This?”
AW: The heat! Hotlanta was Hotlantaing!
CB: The yellow shirt with the cargo pants…
AW: …Outside!
CB: It was like, 120 degrees, it felt like. We could not breathe. That’s when I realized the cotton that those shirts were made out of were fantastic because you did not see any sweat!
AW: [Those shirts] were special!
#PraiseThis will stream only on Peacock April 7th.
